I understand where your coming from when you say that you don’t want to seem like your showing off, with an expensive present, and it is thoughtful of you to do so!
I think that she would appreciate thought more than money so don’t go splashing out on something really expensive that wont mean as much as something personal.
Me and my friends often exchange this gift on birthdays, and it always goes down a treat and is often more appreciated than something big and flashy.
Get one of those boxes, usually for wrapping gifts in (from a Card Store, or Supermarket, even some £/$ Stores do them), then Fill it with her favourite things, (e.g. Her fave chocolates, Her fave lip gloss, Her fave colour hair clip, etc.).
Then in order to make it a little bit romantic, add some things that are special to the two of you (e.g. A photograph of the place you went on your first date, A newspaper clipping from the date you started dating ect.
Hope this Helps chep and good but not to tricky to put together and certainly worth the effort.
