Basically, I was thinking, could I write a fictional story with a woman in a career that only men are allowed to have in this present day and age? If the woman had a career in said field, which is extremely controversial and at current, forbidden, would it be good, or would it ruin the story entirely? It’ll be set a few years into the future anyway. Tell me what you think, and thanks in advance! :]

Of course you could.

Trying to figure out what this controversial profession could possibly be. If it’s military, the Israelis have probably gone there already.

Of course you can make her have a job that only men have. It would be like a feminist movement novel. I’d like to see it in a novel. Go ahead and put her in. (Plus it’s your story so you can do what you want.)

Baybee, that’s the purpose of writing a book: being different and tackling storylines that cartch people’s attention. The same old good vs. evil. the same plot is boring and about time for something different.

It’s your own book, so it’s your own world; you can do whatever ou want. (That means ”YES”)

The only career I know of that excludes women is the ministry. The Middle East probably excludes women from some careers, but in most other parts of the world, women can do any job a man can do as long as she meets the requirements.

I think your story could work, but the reader would need to be very aware of its context. If you’re basing the story in reality, it would not have a place in modern Western culture, for example. Of course, you can always create your own conditions. :-) Best of luck!

    Yes you are…

That being said, there are no male-only professions I can think of in this day-and-age…unless you consider someone who goes around getting women pregnant for the fun of it and refusing to pay child support a profession…personally I’d call it deserving to be shot (dead), but then I was raised right. :D

As to ruining it…I refer you to the character Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon.

    Good Luck!

you always have the right to write whatever you want in any anyhow you want. you cal that "poetic license". it is just you have to be very careful to whom are you going to spread the words you’re going to write.
